Halloween vacations can be cute, creepy, or nowhere near a pumpkin
Compare Disney Halloween parties, Halloween on the High Seas, Universal Halloween Horror Nights, Howl-O-Scream, and tropical fall getaways with Ashley.
Spooky season is a whole travel category now
A Halloween trip can mean trick-or-treating in a theme park, an after-hours horror event, a cruise dressed up for the season, or a beach where nobody asks you to enter a haunted house. Start with who is traveling and how scary you actually want the trip to feel.
Choose your Halloween vibe

Cute & spooky
Think costumes, treats, seasonal entertainment, and Halloween atmosphere without building the whole night around being terrified.

Halloween at sea
A cruise gives you the ship, ports, pools, dining, and sea days first — with seasonal décor and Halloween programming layered over the sailing.

Serious scares
Haunted houses, scare zones, nighttime rides, and the kind of event where nobody is pretending the chainsaw is adorable.

Skip the scares
October also works beautifully for a resort or tropical getaway where the only thing jumping out at you is the room-service bill.
The big Halloween vacation choices
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party
A separately ticketed Magic Kingdom event built around family-friendly Halloween entertainment, trick-or-treating, characters, attractions, and nighttime entertainment. It is the softer side of spooky and popular dates can disappear early.
Oogie Boogie Bash – A Disney Halloween Party
Disney California Adventure’s separately ticketed after-hours Halloween party. Treat trails, seasonal entertainment, and character experiences make this a strong California option for families who want Halloween without a full horror event.
Halloween on the High Seas
Disney Cruise Line brings Halloween décor, activities, character moments, themed treats, and trick-or-treating to most itineraries departing from late September through Halloween. The ship is still the vacation; Halloween is layered on top.
Halloween Horror Nights
Universal Orlando’s separately ticketed nighttime horror event is built around haunted houses, scare zones, and intense horror. It is a very different trip from the family-friendly Disney parties, so ages and scare tolerance matter.
Howl-O-Scream
SeaWorld Orlando and Busch Gardens Tampa Bay each run separately ticketed Howl-O-Scream events with haunted houses, scare zones, nighttime rides, and mature themes. These are designed as serious scare events rather than little-kid Halloween parties.

The tropical escape
You are also allowed to spend October near a pool with absolutely no monsters involved. A Caribbean cruise, all-inclusive resort, or Florida beach stay can still make a strong fall getaway when Halloween itself is not the point.

When to start planning
When your dates are real
Start comparing the trip itself: flights, hotel or cruise cabin, park days, and how many nights you actually have. School-break and weekend inventory does not improve because the group chat waited.
When event tickets go on sale
Separately ticketed Halloween events have their own sale dates and capacity. Some popular Disney Halloween events sell out, so do not treat the event ticket as an afterthought.
Before final payment and travel
Recheck official event dates, admission rules, costume policies, operating hours, and what is included. Suppliers can change details, and a screenshot from six months ago is not a travel document.
Cruise, park, or resort?
A theme-park Halloween trip makes the event the centerpiece. A Halloween cruise gives you a normal cruise with seasonal programming added. A resort or tropical getaway can skip the Halloween programming almost entirely. That difference matters more than which logo is on the ticket.
